Car is a 1998 Forester T/tb JDM import into the UK, with autobox TZ103ZB1AA.

I 'think' that the workings of this box are controlled by its own management unit (some sort of gearbox ecu ?) rather than the main engine ecu.
If this is correct then what is controlled ? What functions of the gearbox operations are managed by this unit ?
And....if it is some type of ecu then is it possible to have it 'remapped' to alter its parameters at all ?

Any gearbox gurus out there ?
