Boost cut on MY98
#2
Steve,
I *think* that the 97/98 cars are also 15.5 psi (1.07 bar).
I'm 99% sure I read somewhere that boost pressure (and fuel cut) was only raised on the MY99 cars onwards.
I'm sure someone with a 98 knows....
Thanks
Gavin

Thanks Gavin.
Interestingly (for me) I see around 1.2 bar on spool up with my HKS mechanical boost gauge, before it settles at 0.9 bar.
I know the ECU allows for spikes, but does this indicate a higher cut?
Steve.

Steve,
If your car boosts to 1.2bar then I think it is safe to say that the fuel cut isn't at the same level as the early cars....
You would not mistake the sensation, it is like a parachute launching out of the boot without warning!
I guess only a MY97/98 owner can tell you....
Thanks
Gavin

Head through the windscreen is a little dramatic. If you are finding it do it on a straight dry piece of road for safety - it is like backing off the throttle instantly when on full boost.

Since adding Optimax my MY98 seems to now Overboost. The Boost Gauge was showing 14 psi max peak boost b4 I started getting Overboost. Not sure what the boost level is now keep running out of road in cov town centre
Hope this helps

I own an MY98 and use a bleed valve to increase the boost a bit (with a Boost Gauge and AFR meter).
My boost gauge under reads by about 1PSI and I can get it to hold an indicated 16PSI in 4th so I reckon the boost cut is comfortably over 17PSI (~1.17bar).
I also remember reading (a long time ago) about Nito and his MY98, using an EBC he was running about 1.15-1.2bar (16.67-17.40psi) about this time I remember reading that the boost cut is somewhere between 1.2 and 1.25bar (17.40 -> 18.12bar) varying slightly from car to car.
My own experience is that my car has overboosted when the needle on my (not very accurate) boost gauge has been close to an indicated 17psi.
Andrew...
PS. Anyone who has only driven a post MY99 will not understand why pre MY99 owners are so worried about the fuel cut, it is **very** severe and quite disconcerting, never mind what it does to the transmission.

For info I had a fault on my MY98 which allowed it to overboost. The cut came after about a second at just a tad over 20psi on my probably not very accurate gauge. Having cured the fault it now pulls a steady 15-and-a-tiny-bit psi in 5th.
