right as above now what i want to know is
A how hard is it to get the box off myself and back on
B do i have a rebuilt to standard or uprate it (cost?)
C think bollocks and spend 2k having the 6speed conversion (dont really want to spend that much but could if i had to)
D should i have a new clutch fitted while the box is off

If the box has been off before now, not too hard a job, 4 spanners on the Haynes manual scale.
If it is the first time off/first for you, really hard work
2
If your car is a stock UK turbo then stock.
If you want to tune to 400 lbft, uprate, see (3)
3
As a daily driver go 6 speeder. You will need the rear diff probably too.
A DIY job but a hard work/easy tech one
4
Definitely, and fit an uprated one too.
To discuss all the above rationally and get prices for all 4 call David at Welcome to the API website who I use!

How much power do you think its putting out?
If the engine is modded and its producing about 350 of each then you will kill 3rd on a standard gearbox again.

i used scoobyclinic to build my box, o er, but i know david, hes a good chap and will do a good job for you.
i had the same thing
options are
1> rebuild/recon - about £800
2> 6 speeder - about £2000
3> ppg straight or helical gear set - £3500
rebuild may break again, straight cut is noisey but very very strong, 6 speeder dicks around with ratios and some folks don't get on with them

when it was on the rolling road it was running at 300 with two buggered coil packs and he was also doing it in 3rd gear so it was only boosting to 1bar i recon if he had done it in 4th it would of made 330ish and it got new coil packs aswell now !! well 3rd gear has always been a bit noisy ever since i got the car i dont really want to 6speed it just becasue of the cost £2.5k?!?! so im happy with paying £800 with new clucth and they can do it so soon

TBH mate, if you're at 330ft lbs torque (torque, not bhp, kills boxes) then it may just be worth getting the 6 speeder fitted. At last that will be a pay once, fit and forget option. £800 is only considerably cheaper if you have to pay it once. How do you drive it - that and the mapping makes all the difference.

Totally agree!
also, I think the 6 speeder can add value to the car at re-sale.
I have been knocking seven bells out of my stock gearbox with 350 lbft, 140+ drag starts on racing slicks, BUT I change gear really smooth and with a clutch!
Powe shift a 5 speeder and something will let go.
