Default Auto >>> Manual

Quick question...

I'm just starting to gather parts to convert a car to take Impreza WRX engine and running gear

My plan is to pick up a cheap, early WRX, most likely a wagon and probably with engine problems, so I can cut it up, use as much of it as I can, and use it as a template etc, rob as many parts as possible, then buy an STi 5/6 engine, 2.5 bottom end and Type RA gearbox

Anyway, I have been offered an Auto WRX wagon with suspected head gasket failure for silly money. Now, seeing as I'm going to be replacing the gearbox anyway, am I ok to go for an Auto as the inital donor car? Will the transmission tunnel still be the same (or suitable) dimensionally? And are any mounts or anything I would need be different?

Cheers,

Mike

all of the mounting points of both gearboxes are the same. the only differences is as you would imagine flywheel, clutch and also the prop for the auto is shorter. hope this helps

Thanks for your response mate. Sounds good to me. My fabricator also said he didn't think it would be a problem, and I've just agreed to buy it this evening
