Default Lost 1st Gear!!

As the title says... I now have no more 1st gear in my 2003 WRX.
Please can anyone tell me whether it's possible to repair just that gear or is an entire new gearbox necessary??
What prices are we talking for reconditioned boxes/ new boxes or if possible repairing 1st?

Many thanks.

We do an exchange recon unit at £750.00 + VAT. The problem with bespoke repairs is that individual gears are around 200 - 300 pounds each And synchro hubs, if needed, can be about the same, each. It doesn't take long to get way past the cost of one of my 'boxes that come with a 6 months warranty.

There can be 'collateral damage ' to other parts of the box, so that the problem extends beyond just first gear.

A customer for a gearbox recently had a quote for parts from a Subaru dealer for a similar problem. They stopped counting at £2500.00 just for the parts.

Call me if I can help.

API David, thanks for that information. I might have been quick to judge the situation: I've just been out to feel how the gear box is today and it's going into first. When it happend last night, it wasn't that I lost the gear as I probably wrongly put it, but that it wouldn't actually go into 1st gear. As I say, for now its going into 1st again and is pulling.
I wonder if you have any explanation for this?
(All other gears were working fine it was only first that it wouldn't go in)

Thanks

When they overheat they tend to do that. It may never happen again OR it might start doing it more frequently if something is distorting in the selector train rather than the gear train.

Good Luck, David APi
