Default sti 3 gearbox

What power are these capable of taking. I`d always heard that classic gearboxes give way around the 350bhp mark however I`ve just seen on andyF`s website that the v3 and 4 gearboxes are stronger than previous and that after 400bhp they are likely to suffer:

i`m confused now

Power isn`t the real killer of gearboxes. Torque and bad drivers are. It isn`t a problem killing a gearbox on stock engine, while others drag with the same boxes with 400\400.

I've hillclimbed on my V3 Sti box for 4 years with 350 lbft, AP organic clutch and real sticky tyres and full-on slicks, all ok.

Removed it and installed a Type R dccd TY 754 box. Exactly the same.

As above, it is how you drive them, especially going into 3rd.

I know another hillclimber with much more torque doing just the same.

Maybe '' Hillclimbers do it Gently '' is appropriate!

thanks mate its appreciated Chances are I`ll do one drag meet with it but that will be about it as its not easy for me to attend them living in Guernsey. recently fitted an autobahn fmic and am in the market for a new turbo, not because I`m chasing power, but because I knew when I bought the car that they would need replacing in the short term. At the moment I`m probably looking at a vf34 or 35 so the power wouldn`t be enormous

A hillclimb start is as fierce as any drag race start, and the above has done over 140 of them!

6000 rpm and dump the clutch asap.(or quicker)
