Default Exedy Clutch instruction, what do these removed bits do?

Whilst looking to upgrade my clutch on my 07 STi I came across this in their instruction PDF anyone know what do the bits do & is it worth removing them anyway might stop the standard clutch from smelling when I side step it

Subaru Impreza GDB
The GDB Impreza is equipped with the orifice mechanism in order to prevent an abrupt clutch
engagement.
Since this orifice mechanism may cause premature wear of disc or a slip, disable it by
implementing the steps shown below. (See page 14.)
1) Remove the orifice on the side of the clutch operating cylinder.
2) Loosen the screw on the operating cylinder side of the orifice mechanism.
At this time, pay attention to the spring incorporated in it.
3) Remove all the built-in parts (two springs and two plastic parts).
4) Pay attention not to omit the gasket, and tighten the screw.
5) Re-install the orifice mechanism to the vehicle, and bleed air.

see pages 13 & 14

www.exedy.co.uk/H300.pdf

Thanks

Tom

I would follow that little proceedure to save the clutch.
If you are changing the clutch then that bit is trivial work!

A quick call to David at Welcome to the API website will put you mind at rest.
He sells Exedy.

It's a clutch damper, but I suspect it also reduced the pedal pressure too.

Default Thanks for that guys

I was wondering if I would get less slippage on the standard clutch if I removed it, not that I want to change it but seems like I'd have to, so to handle 368 bhp 415 lbs ft torque the cars putting out, what do you think?

I think it is telling you to remove it to prevent slipping/damage that the clutch maker will be blamed for.

My AP organic has been side-stepped for 3 years with no smells (only 350 lbft mind) and all is well.
Paul is the expert though. I would follow what he says.

Yes, correct, but the simple direct action of the classic clutch certainly works well.
I presume this advice fromExedy 'converts' the new age to the 'old age' action?

I don't think so. I suspect, but haven't taken the time to confirm, that the device is also a hydraulic amplifier, and reduces the pedal effort (input piston bigger than output pistons) as well as damping the pressure to the slave cylinder. If you fit an STI master cylinder to a classic car, you get a stiff pedal, and I think the reason is above.

HI there im very new on here (2 mins ago) but hopefully i will be able to navigate my way back here...... ok i have just fitted an exedy racing clutch (organic disk with 40% more clamp load plate in the red box says racing clutch). my car is a 2000 classic uk turbo version 5 and had a standard clutch in, standard clutch was not slipping and i had no issue with judder when pulling off or changing down gears at low revs (approaching lights).......... now i do have some judder, i can deal with this but is this normal for my exedy organic uprated clutch when brand new? will it get better? i have only done about about 10-15 miles on new clutch and only pulled off at low revs as i expect it has to bed in properlly. reson for not much use is due to me changing my standard exhaust manifold with a stainless equall length feral racing manifold and have been told i should get a re-map before driving properlly (as intended)... is this true that the clutch judder is normal for my clutch????? and do i need a re map since fitting the manifold????? please help lol thanks.
oh and last but not least... DO I NEED TO REMOVE THIS 'ORFICE'??? im happy with the pedal feel as it is, just not the judder

It may well judder a little when new, did you get a new or skimmed flyhweel at the same time? It's quite important to have a good flywheel friction surface, especially on a new uprated clutch as they have a harder friction material on the plate.

In the past I've got away without skimming the flywheel face with no judders, but did the last time round, took advantage of using a lighter flywheel too. Not much money to have the right surfaces and the lighter weight (£150)

It will probably bed-in.
