Gearbox swap, What can I do?
Ok, I have a 2000 wrx (GT) right hand drive with a broken box. I want to replace with a Sti box without DCCD. I know I`ll need the diffs ect, but how compateble is the Sti box to a classic?
What is "all" the bits I`ll need to swap out.
Please any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Sti series boxes have quite short gearing so to really enjoy this swop the engine needs to be able to rev to 8K as Sti's do.
The ratio's of the Sti are well suited to good hard in-gear accelleration with a pleasent top gear where the revs can be reasonable @ 75mph (about 4000 rpm)
You get the slick shift feel too.
The best boxes are the TY 754 series, ie Sti V5 onwards.
It is a direct swop, make sure you get the rear diff with the box to keep the diff ratio's compatable. When doing this the rear diff must be the right size. At a guess your rear diff is the R160 series (common to find) as opposed to the R180 from the Type R series for example.
This can be a minefield.

Possibly!
As with all things, some are better than others, but it seems if you almost powershift the box it will break, but if you change quickly and smooth then all is well. I've hammered mine for 5 years racing and it never complained/rumbled/or broke. Neither did the clutch.
I changed to a Type R for the closer ratios and dccd and just the same, no probs.
People say I am very smooth in a car though.
Neither of my gearboxes have been rebuilt at all. The Type R was inspected out of caution as I was not convinced about the 'quality' of the seller!
Not sure of the conversion to Nm from Lbft, but my engine is a strong 350/370 lbft. and will do this all day: (well, 4 years actually)

Easy to fit:
You need the box + the shifter mechanism+ propshaft and rear diff.
Probs you might have are:
The box does not have the male splined stub shafts for your halfshafts. Dealer buy for parts.
This all depends on the year of the box. Get the box number and email David at Welcome to the API website for his expert advice.
You can use the existing clutch.
Your car will weigh about 30Kg more
The box is very heavy and very big. (great gearchange and great capacity for torque)
