I've got 5/40 in at the moment (due to the colder weather).

There isn't distinct right or wrong answer, I'll discuss it with you when you come over?

Mike.

I second that 5/40 during the cold seasons...15/50 is for summer use only imo.

...and naturally I'm talking about the 300V Competition stuff - the pride and joy deserves the best (then wtf is Tuckwoods pods doing in it? ).

SC'RATRS, there was a big disscussion about this a while back and the 300V as mentioned above seemed to come out favourite. 5W40 is too thin. SAM 'might' have a point in his climate but not in Nottingham mate.

Anyway, if you were gonna put 5W40 in it you should wait 'til the 1st of October surely

5w40 is NOT too thin, read back on some of the oil threads. It's not as sim,ple as just do what IM says.

I would (have) also happily use 0w40 for general town, stop start use.

Oi JF, stop copying!

Subaru "official" grade for UK cars is Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40(30).

Motul themselves recommend M300V Competition 15w-50 for all models of the Impreza Turbo.

PAH! Mike....I was using Motul way before U mate.

I wouldn't want to run 15/50 below 0 degrees celsius anyway, you wouldn't want to hear how the engine sounds with that stuff (unfortunately we had a weird period of fekin cold weather very early, and I hadn't winter prepped my scoob yet).

Question

Has anyone here used Motul gearbox oil (Gear 300 75w90 which is fully synthetic)?

Is it any good?

red line hi shock stuff.

weight of less than a 75 90 but protection of a 240 apparently.

Certainly glides like a knife through butter. Makes gearbox feel so much better.

Question

I am a bit concerned that these fully synthetic gearbox oil are not as good as the semi-synthetic or mineral based in protecting the gearbox.

Isn't the Redline stuff really expensive?

I use the Motul Gear 300 and think it is great. Light gear change and no grinding or obstruction to fast changes even from cold.

Also use 300V 15W-50 in the engine all year round.
