Default Is my Driveshaft buggered?

Right guys, i have an awfull noise from the front nearside wheel assembly area. Its hard to tell where is is coming from exactly when im driving. Every rotaion of thte wheel triggers a scraping/rubbing noise. The noise changes with road speed. Im pretty sure its nothing to do with the brakes as it makes no difference if i have the peddal depressed slightly or not. The noise gets worse the longer i drive the car and seems more apparent on right hand turns. At slow speeds (less than 5mph) it sounds like a creeking noise. I have jacked the car up and spun the wheels but cannot recreate the problem. Im beginning to think its the outer cv joint. Any ideas? Please?
Plus, how much is a new cv or driveshaft?

Thirded....

If it's a grinding/scraping noise its almost certainly the wheel bearing. A faulty driveshaft would be more of a clunking noise.
