Default God cars are frustrating !!

Before I started reading threads on this forum I thought my car needed a new clutch and possibly and flywheel reface…….now I am confused and as the above job has been quoted at £1060 by my local Subaru dealer don’t want to spend the money unless it is the above…..

Why am I confused? It’s the talk about a possible alternative reason to clutch slip (being something to do with C clips coming off of the rear drive shaft and making your car three wheel drive. What is all that about?

The thing is that my car has the following symptoms (all associated with a failing clutch/worn flywheel):

Clutch judder from cold (but not all the time and if you rev it up to about 2500rpm as you pull away it doesn’t)
Rev’s are kind of jumpy above 3500rpm under acceleration in 4th and 5th (and sometimes although not often 3rd); again this doesn’t happen everytime (more like 8 out of 10 times). Strange stuff.

I would speak to somebody like API but not sure they would be able to suggest anything other than take it to a dealer. Anyone got any ideas?

The car is a 2001 Bugeye WRX by the way.

Bring it over, we can at least give an opinion, which is not possible by the internet.

David,

Thanks mate, think I probably will have, no clutch judder or slipping on way home tonight, but have ECU light on now instead.

I am beginning to wish I had a different car

Festerfly,

Don't get much chance to get out at the moment (new addition to family), but I know that there are a number of people in Bedford that meet up (I think at the Interchange Retail Park).

You could try a PM to Lapedro, he seems to have a finger on the pulse..

What car you drive mate, I'll wave if I see you
