Default Is Gearbox Going???

Well, here goes.......................

Driving through gears no problem 1st through to 6th.

But, changing down at speed from 5th to 4th, the gears crunch. Not every time but alot especially if been driving alot.

Is the synchro going?
Car still under warranty till December.

One of the fellow SMACS said his is like this sometimes, but surely this cant be right???

Sounds like the syncro is worn. If is under warranty get it checked out and hopefully repaired.

When was the gearbox oil last changed, you say it happens once you have been driving a lot. This gives the impression that the oil is getting hotter and less viscous which doesnt help out the syncros.

In my old MY00 I need to use Redline heavy Shockproof oil which flows like a thick gearbox oil but has the friction when working of a really really thick gear oil.

Car is serviced as spec by Subaru Dealer, plus extra engine oil changes.

Will get it looked at next week by Dealer after trackday on Sunday, but like to go armed with info so dont just get the usual fob off they try.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
