HELP NEEDED ASAP
Hello people, was driving back from essex last night on the motorway doing about 60 - 65mph and all of a sudden the oil light come on, it had dropped all the oil on the motorway but can't see where it come from! It doesn't appear to have come from the sump either, any ideas?
Thanks

Do you have oil in the engine?
If not and the leak is not obvious then it could be getting out from the turbo seals if the engine shows no sign of leaking.
If the filter seal was leaking there would be an almighty mess under there and burning on the manifold too.
Rear crank seal would do for the clutch and a mess in the bell housing leaking everywhere.
I think i would refill with oil. Remove the crank sensor connection and crank the engine over for 30 secs (will not fire but will oil-up the (presumably) empty galleries.
Check the oil sender connections are sound.
The oil light should go out as pressure will have been built up if the pump is ok.
If light goes out and stays out:
Re connect and fire.
If the light comes/stays on, then turn off quickly and contact a speciallist such as David at Welcome to the API website
Graham.

No, too tight = pain to get it off next time.
If the engine was knocking then you may have goosed the engine, but put some oil in and see, nothing to loose.
Please follow the oil-up process with the sensor disconnected first to get oil into everywhere.

Oil filters have a habit of working loose, if not done up really tightly. To lose all the oil would mean that the underneath of the car would be dripping everywhere and you could not fail to notice that.
Try putting some oil in and see what happens but once knocking, even if it quietens dow, it will have done substantial damage and will fail quite soon -terminally.
I doubt you can do any more damage than you have done already, so still worth a go. lf you win then someone up above likes you, I can assure you it wouldn't happen to me.....

If it is coming from the front, could it be the crank pulley loose ? That will knock like crazy and can destroy the crank too, if not dealt with quickly.
Reach down between the rad and the engine and try to rock it about with your fingers. Engine off obviously.
Good Luck, David
