Angry gear box problem

Morning all,

I have a problem with my gear box (1995 Jap WRX) and it is really stiff to get into second gear, the other gears seem ok. when i put the gear leaver in nutral and push it to the left it springs back which is good BUT if i push it to the right slightly it gets stuck and does not spring back.

does this mean the syncro has gone or is it as simple as the springs in the gearbox or are the springs int the gear stick area rather than the box ?

Subaru experts please help

gearlever return spring is above the box just under your gearstick (get at from underneath)

Cheers, does it just sound like the spring has gone to you? or do you think there is a larger problem with it not going in to second properly?

regards,

Bad news!!! the gearbox went bang this morning!!!

it went bang then sounded like i was dragging the box along the floor!! does anybody know how much (approx) it would cost for a new box and a recon box, i have taken it to an authorised Subaru garage and await the call!!

The car is a 5 speed manual if this helps

essex subaru breakers will have a decent secondhand gearbox for your car for around £450 that comes with a good warranty too, or if you want to rebuild the existing one speak to paul at zen performance he quoted me nearly £200 less than api's price for a gearbox rebuild, lol

have a look on the passenger side front suspension turret, just on top of that should be chassis plate with the transmission code on it
