Default Another flywheel problem

Bit of help would be appreciated, i purchased an exedy race clutch and fidanza fly wheel, my mate fitted them as he i quite a good mechanic. Did have a bit of drama with the spigot bearing as it wasn't as tight fit in the new flywheel compared to the standard flywheel. Spoke to the supplier and instructions say the fit is not as plush on purpose but to leave the bearing in loctite overnight in the fly wheel? My mate went with the advice and put everything back together. No problems with the car at all that i can notice apart from this - Everything drives perfect apart from third gear, when i let off and let the engine brake itself there is a rubbing or catching noise on something??? Very bizarre to me as it only does it in third and only in engine braking not acceleration?? Any help please, the sound is starting to worry me??

cheers steve

Try driving it as you say and dip the clutch and see if the noise goes.
I suspect the noise is not the clutch but something touching under the car, ie down pipe to gearbox crossmember.
In third the engine will twist a fair bit by torque reaction as it gives 'engine braking'. Dipping the clutch relieves the enge/box of the twist on the mountings so giving greater clearances.
A lot gets disturbed doing a box out job.

There is a special Loctite call Bearing Fit, designed for loose bearings in housings.

Graham.

Thanx for the reply, the noise goes when i dip the clutch? Does this mean it could be something catching?

cheers Steve

Take it back there with some of these suggestions. They are easy to check out before the major job of box out again.
Check simple things first!
