I had my number 4 piston changed in March 2001 due to piston slap. I have now noticed the same familiar noise re-occuring now the freezing weather is with us. Its a April 98 vehicle and the warranty is expired. Has anyone else got the same problem? Do you think Subaru UK will still honour repairing it as it is a design fault?

 

Who changed it first time round? Warranty or not, I would think it's fairly unacceptable to have this done again 10 months down the line.

 

got the same prob with mine, had it done last jan with a new short engine and now its knocking again and two months out of warranty. I wrote to subaru uk and got a letter back saying they are very concerned and have asked me to take it to my nearest dealer, will be doing so in the next week. Hopefully they will repair it foc, i think this would be your best option.
