12VDC with up to 100% duty cycle, orifice >=3.5mm with no opening pressure preferably 3/2 configuration but 5/2 or 5/3 would do, and ideally something that will withstand over 50 deg C.

Something a bit like http://www.dawesdevices.com/solenoid.html would be nice, but searching www.rswww.com and www.festo.com online catalogues I cannot find anything suitable. They are either 24V or don't flow very much.

Any ideas welcome. Am going to use it to hook up a TPS based control system to switch between PPP boost control and MBC boost control. The electronics are a doddle, getting hold of the right solenoid appears not to be....

How about one of those solenoid valves that are fitted to Carburated Mk 3 & 4 Escorts, the one that opens to allow fresh air into the manifold when the engine stops. Anti run on valve I think it's called. Scrap yards are full of em !!
Or, bit more upmarket but proven design - Nitrous oxide valve 'Real Steel' will sell individual valves, 12v, rated up to 900psi for NOS or 50psi for higher flow Fuel valves. These would last a lifetime on 18 PSI of air ! Priced from 20 quid.

I receieved some info from my local Festo stockist about the Festo Classic Tiger solenoid/spring valves

These are an older range that have a 12v coil option.

I can't see any part numbers on the fax I have, I remember they where not cheap though!

PS they are available in 5/2 and 3/2 configuration rated up to 60deg C

Just been into Pipemore where I got the previous restrictor valve. They said they had more than 20 duplicate orders of the one I did! Anyway, all they could offer was a £70 rather over-engineered looking Festo Valve. Will have a follow of above leads and also dig through an RS catalogue again.

Thanks - that's a great site Harry. I think they might have something suitable. Will need to read a load of data sheets. And then find out the cost! I suspect an op amp and a solenoid driver or transistor/diode will all come to well under £10. Up to £20 for a solenoid would be nice.
