is it safe to use a bleed valve on my93 wrx and how much boost is permitted on standard ecu and injectors as im getting 0.7 bar at the mo dont know if this is correct level for standard .

0.8bar (approx 11psi) is standard for MY94 5-door (220PS)
MY93/94 4-door (240PS) with larger turbo is probably more like 0.9 bar

NB Your gauge may potentially only be accurate to +/- 0.1 bar or so

So looks like your boost in in the right ballpark, but possibly slightly on the low side

You could try a bleed valve temporarily, but I found my 5-door hitting the boost cutoff limit when trying to raise the (peak) boost by anything other than a small amount


However I'm sure there are some early MY 4-door owners here, running boost mods, that can comment on this better

I ran a bleedvalve for a while on my 96UK on 1.2 bar with no probs but had to get a HKS FCD to up the ECU overboost protection (but doesn't remove it), otherwise I got overboost symptoms.

I now have a HKS EVC3 which is miles better. I found the bleedvalve a cheap and easy way to up boost but you are constantly under the bonnet adjusting it for the weather conditions (hot and cold), as your boost fluctuates like mad. The EVC allows you to do it "in-car" and doesn't involve guesswork like the bleedvalve does as it is all digitally displayed.

I'm currently running 1.3 bar and have shown 1.45 bar but don't like to run that regularly!
Had to get new coilpacks and iridium plugs to cope with the boost increase though and a HKS AFR to adjust the fuel a bit.

If you do go for a bleed valve, be ULTRA careful as a small change in the valve CAN cause quite a large change in boost, so up it VERY gradually.

If I were you I'd get a 2nd hand Electronic one like I did for just over £200. It's easier, safer and looks cool

Have a look at the Dawes Device MBC threads. If you're going to use a bleed I would seriously consider using a Dawes instead.....just my 2p worth.
