Default Another Clasic PPG!

Right heres the dilema!

Im getting my 95 wrx's power increased, the gearbox will be the weak link either after the planned remap or when I change the engine next year!

I intend to get a second gearbox and do the conversion myself (I enjoy the fettling side of things!), from speaking to a few knowledgable people I have been recommended to get a box from a 99-01 WRX..

Now heres where I want to be clear, if I get the said box to convert, will I need a new driveshaft, or will my current one do? will I need a jap box, or as I will be replacing 1-4 gears am I not worried about that? when getting the new box, would I need the rear diff, or will my current one be suitable (abviously when I change the engine next year I will have to replace the diffs..), anything else I have missed??!?!

Many thanks

First thought is... if you need to ask these questions then you should really consider whether you are upto building the box..

however..

driveshafts will fit, no need to change.. only issue with driveshafts appear with rear diff.. of which I am not upto speed on the details, other than the plated and open driveshafts are different on the rear I believe.. the stub that goes into the diff are different length, and obviously the R160 and R180 driveshafts are different..

you need to match the diff ratios front to back.. if you are happy with the current gearing then use the WRX diffs..

Agree the 99 casing is needed and better.. it bolts up to the engine of the older car but has extra bolt holes that will be unused on your car.

Thanks for the response! Everyone has to start somewhere and ultimatly, its not as if I have to design or manufacture something!

I can help you with this, as we keep all parts needed to do whatever you want, off the shelf. We have PPG gear sets in stock as either straight cut or helical. We have gearbox cases and loose parts.

A whole, but stripped gear teeth, TY754 would be a good base as long as it's not 5th stripped as you will need that. Buy it off fleaby or maybe even Snet for as cheap as you can get. All you really need is the cases and selector rails and nuts and bolts. OR we can dig in our own bits box for a set up.

We can match to your preferred diff ratios or can advise from our own experiences with building hybrid boxes over many years.

Just call when you need.
