Question

I'm finally having a boost gauge fitted in the next day or so (a Defi gauge). Does anyone have any guidance on the level of boost I should expect to see, and what I should set the warning level to? The car is completely unmodified.

Well,

I would say that if the car is completely unmodded, then you should expect around 0.9- 1.0 bar.

It varies from car to car - but you will get peak around 17ps - nearly 1.2, with it holding just over 1 bar - some cars peak a little lower. Set your limits to 1.3 to feel comfortable - although I can never get my Defis to remember the limits - although it will remember the peaks!

Thanks for the advice guys. The gauge is fitted now, and it looks like the car is holding 1.1 bar accelerating hard in 3rd gear. In lower gears it peaks at 1.1 but drops off pretty quickly as the revs increase. I suspect this is because by the time the turbo has spooled up it's time to change gear - is this right or do I have a problem?

No problem at all. In lower gears you get less boost than you get in higher gears. No need to worry, everything is fine.
