Intercooler splitter ?
#1
I did a search on 'splitter' and 'intercooler' but found nothing.
Remember seeing a design for one on the web somewhere but can't find it now.
Seems like a very cheap mod, even if the gains are small.
Any thoughts/experiences?
Edited cos - doh!!! I found the links by searching 'All forums' not just drivetrain.
Cheers
Tim

I've got one but not fitted it yet Logic suggests (I sound like Spock!!) that it should make a difference by making the air flow over more of the intercooler. Scott W fitted on to his wagon and thought it made it a bit more responsive and pull better. i think the biggest difference is in warmer weather where the intercooler is needed more......

http://www.iwoc.co.uk/iwocmods.html there is a description about halfway down the page found from the link above. It shows all you need to know about making one. Havent tried it yet though.

Scoobyjawa, you're right if it's going to make much differance, it'll be in the summer - but as it's a DIY job I best start it now, as I am notorius for taking ages to finish anything (except a pint that is).
Cheers Bruce, I'm looking at them there plans right now....

Ok, I made one and fitted it from the instructions. I didn't feel any difference but what the heck it didn't make it worse!
Anyway, the new STI 7 has one so it must be good right? I bet no one else has spotted that one, but then again I am a bit of an anorak!

Chaps, the design that you have found via IWOC/Steve Breen's site is mine.
And In my opinion it does not help things much. Sorry. The dirty front half is due to the swirl effect under the scoop, the splitter actually causes air to bounce out more at speeds above 80mph, check this by taping some strands of wool along the top edge of the scoop if you like.
Plus at speeds above 80 it causes even more bonnet lift than normal!
You could always try fitting my intercooler water spray kit instead, although I doubt many of you would want to own up to havine Austin Allegro bits on your cars

Sorry, no design specs etc, but this is one made and sold (for an eye watering 19800 yen-ish) in Japan:
GC8
GDB (ie current shape STI)
GDA (current Rex)
You can find other bits and pieces here:
http://www.zerosports.co.jp/shop/index.html
Hope this helps a tad.

NRG Auto make them in Sydney to fit with the std scoop so they would be much cheaper than the zerosports ones. They are around $60 AUD. Many of the WRX club members use them.
Not sure whether they will send to the UK but you never know.
This is their website which has their contact details:
