Have got a MYO1 which i fitted a Graham Goode back box too.
Removed it after 1 week as it was too Loud particulary at motorway speeds, any sugestions as to what is the best BB for 'some' noise,
appearance and better engine response.
Cant be TOO LOUD as SHE moans.

Remus or Prodrive make quiet backboxes. I have a Prodrive exhaust on MY00 and even with a decat DP and centre it is quieter than just a Scoobysport backbox. My personal preference only - agree noise of SS is very nice, but I don't always want to listen to it.

The prodrive WRsport BB on my MY01 is LOUD, but I have an induction kit and decat centre as well.
Still I was suprised how loud it was compared to previous MY's WRSport bb's
Magnex quieter I believe.

Cheers, the problem being the Prodrive unit is one of the most expensive, and again if SHE finds out she will moan even more.

removed that as a possibility.

The Remus is cheap (or was for me) & quiet. That was for a MY00, though, and I don't know if they make one for the MY01. It is certainly a much better breather than the standard box - I'd say as good as the Prodrive - but doesn't make a particularly exciting sound. More refined, & deeper than the standard & a little splattery(?!). A big improvement on the standard, but it all depends what you like!

I'm in the same boat as you Zippy, I want better performance but not a load of noise(it's so par sa).lol
I've heard that a different down pipe makes a lot of difference, but how does it affect your MOT and noise levels?

I don't know about the different downpipes (only had the one - a scoobysport). Noise level increases with a DP, but doesn't seem to drone in itself (which is the really unpleasant bit!) That comes from the BB...

I'd have thought thought that the type of DP wouldn't make that much of a difference to the sound level - except if it's mild steel (which v. few are) it should be quieter. If the center section has a resonator, it is also meant to quieten things down. (This isn't stuff I've tried, just things I've heard, so I may be talking out of my )

MOT is knackered at normal idle, with OE (ie catted) centre section left in it should pass fast-idle.

Question

Sorry off topic,

but is the overall result a pass or a fail if it fails normal idle?

they test fast idle and if that passes it passes overall.

The Remus stuff is mild steel so it will rust up in no time.

If you don't want the noise, you don't want the performance.

AND: SHE shouldn't have ANYTHING to say about your car.

Changed from a standard rear box to a Scoobysport and was very please with the noise level, but after a while the 3,000rpm resonance started to get on my nerves so sold it an put on a Magnex.

The Magnex I have now, is slightly quieter but doesn't sound as burble/poppy as the scoobysport. But still gives resonance at certain frequencies.

Tommorrow I collect a Prodrive BB, so the Magnex will soon be up for sale. I shall report on the difference as soon as it's fitted (Prob Sunday).

The reason I'm changing to the P'drive is I'll prob do the downpipe next and don't want it to be too loud when the nipper's in the car.

Had a Prodrive WRSport backbox fitted recently, it makes the car more 'noticable' but is not too intrusive. Seems to make the car a bit happier too! IMO
