one big snake with no CATS?(Boxless backbox)
was at work yesterday...and kind of got drawing...(You know doodles!)and i drew a snake!..then a thought how about transplanting this snake to the exhaust system of the car...
So here goes....any ideas on how the car will sound and perform without its down pipe cat and a boxless backbox?
So in essense all i will have is one peice of winding stainless steel snake under my car!!

1. If you're not going to have any boxes then you don't need the pipe. Do away with that extra weight and all the hangers etc. and just terminate below the engine somewhere.
2. There is more to exhaust design than just getting the gas to the back of the car. IIRC some back pressure is necessary for the engine to run.

thankyou
i think i might need to spend a little more time on this!..asuming that i get rid of the pipes all together i take it that the car will run like a dog ie cr*p!!
so i will lose some of the back pressure?hence i will some sort of length in order for pressure build up?
totally lost!!and stupid!!(Me that is)

As for a "boxless" backbox, go ahead, fit a straight pipe, and strip out your soundproofing - it's all unnecessary weight. Then drive 200 miles to a suitable hospital and see if they can save your hearing. It's been done before with a very small "bean can" resonator; IIRC the noise levels were something like 120db(A) at moderate revs, to put it in context that is well over 30 times louder than the mandatory limit in industry where you must wear hearing protection.
Don't quote me, but I seem to remember Knowlesy, now of Xtreme scoobies, mentioning he'd run one of these bean can devices for a very short time and ended up with some very annoyed neighbours and a legal "request" to fit a quieter one asap.

To be honest a rediculous (sp) idea for a road car.
Hades sums it up very well imho.
Fit a free flowing big pipe system but to run open pipe is begging for trouble from everyone.

Having driven my P1 back from Thruxton with the backbox section separated from the rest of the exhaust (it broke, rust etc), I can say it'll sound LOUD. The sound resembled a V1, though it probably wasn't quite as loud.
