Default How much more power can I squeeze out of my VF35

Hello peeps
I was wondering what the MAX figure you can squeeze out the VF35.
At the moment I have 370.6 with mine and am not wanting to loose my fast spool up.
I would love to get as close to 400 as possible as a mate of mine said if I got 400 he would eat his own liver!!! , so where can I squeeze a few more ponies and torquey things from?

Ive already got fitted
3" turbo back decat system
GT spec 2 headers and up pipe
APS inner wing induction kit with the Perrin intake silicone hoses to the turbo and a couple of other Samco bits and bobs
Ported wastegate to try stop the boost creep these turbos are famous for
"booster" in the fuel
Andy.F map

when I had it last mapped my injector duty cycle was at 95% so im thinking about a fuel pressure regulator and an AVCR

Anyone have any other suggestions???

you`ve got 370bhp out of it? From what I have heard they`ll go to about 350ish normally dependant on supporting mods so I wouldn`t have thought you can get much further than you have it now

It would be cheaper and easier to change the turbo for a TD05 20G.

Im still running the standard STi9 top mount just now.
im toying with getting a FMIC made up and revercing my manifold to reduce the length of the pipework and help reduce lag

Im totaly lost with all the different types of turbo, but all I know is that im wanting a fast and hard spool up. Just now in 5th and 6th gears im hitting my full 1.55 bar of boost at 2700 rpm, with max boost in 4th coming in at about 3100ish. When Andy Forrest overlayed my boost profile over the top of an STI8 JDM car with the twin scroll turbo he had mapped the 2 profiles from 3000 rpm onwards were more or less identical

Or for faster spool the TD05 18G.

With your "additives", that will see you over 400 with very similar spool characteristics.

370 HP from a VF35 @ 1.55 bar, wow I didnt realise that was possible

I'm gobsmacked - "my full 1.55 bar of boost at 2700 rpm, with max boost in 4th coming in at about 3100ish.". I also find it incredible that you can get 390 from a 35 @1.45 or is this a joke?

I think you're lucky that the TMIC is still holding together as others have failed with less but that could be down to different dump valves. Where is this RR as it would be interesting to see how mine compares there?

I'm starting to feel a little inadequate with only 340 hp @ 1.4 bar.
Where did I go wrong?

No Joke. V5 STi with lots of mods which all add to the mix. A few more tweeks and I think it will surpass 400hp, then I might upgrade to a VF34

A typical figure for a VF35 on Dyno Dynamics rollers, V Power and NF with all supporting mods is around 350 bhp so 370 bhp is a credit to you.
On a like for like basis a TD05-18G will do 360 bhp and it will be VERY rare for any 05 18 G to exceed 400 bhp on road fuel and NF. I know of a couple. So a move to an 18G would not necessarily be an advancement.
In similar circumstances, a TD05-06 20G will do around 385 bhp, and some do more than 400 on V-power plus N.F.
Hope this helps.

You could always run it on race fuel Graeme, I'm sure I could squeeze another 30bhp out of it if you used some of the expensive stuff that some use to impress at rolling road days

I'm running 320bhp out of my 35 at 1.25 bar in 2005 wrx lots of mods full decat, equal length, sti pinks ,walbro and remap. I was under the assumption that these turbo's were blowing their twa* off at 350bhp so this thread makes intresting reading.
Sorry to hijack the thread a little but my headers are being ceramic coated at the moment and my APS front mount and wing mounted induction arrive end of the month from Oz. What do you think i could up the boost to on my wrx safely with these mods 1.3 bar ?

Most of the mods (850 injectors, flowed heads etc.) are for running a much larger turbo but as I couldn’t get it to fit at the time I put a vf35 on as a stop gap. That ‘stop gap’ has been on 12 months now and I must say I’m really enjoying driving it and tweaking it. FWIW In my case upping boost by 0.05bar @ peak power lost around 5-6 hp. I run 1.7bar midrange.

Andy

If I manage to get 400 then I think I will try some race fuel for a chuckle It’s alot of money to spend just to get 3 numbers though (however impressive and/or irrelevant they may be!)

Unfortunately its my co. car and I have to do 25k miles a year in it - V power is pricey enough without buying NF or other jungle juice on top.

Nope, 390bhp is made with 1.45bar boost

I run 1.7bar midrange between 4000 and 5500rpm, down to 1.45 at around 6000rpm and circa 1.2 at 7000rpm.

Hello Mark

I run VPower with 3 ltrs of methanol. I don't have the graph to hand at the mo, but AT was 11 degrees, IT was 12 degrees (no jiggery pokery there then!). FWIW with a slightly different spec it made 356hp @1.35bar on plain Super UL previously.

Surge is a bit of a pig below 3.5k, as can be expected, but then you can't have everything. Ho-hum

356@1.35 is better than I'd expect on pump fuel but probably accounts for your head work and other supporting mods.

I have read this thread carefully and your statements were true AFAICT but mislead some due to the detail you omitted.

Perhaps the thread title should be "how much power from a VF35 on pump fuel with no additives and usual mapping"? But then again the G.Mac may just want dyno queen figures?

Do you drive your car with methanol and at that boost all the time?

F

G.Mac does, so do I, come to think of it, so do 1/2 of Scotlands Imprezas Methanol is so cheap that it actually costs less to run a car on a 10%mix than it would to run V-power alone.

FWIW, the 05 spec Sti makes far better use of the VF35 than the earlier models. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is but its good for circa 15bhp more than the earlier models in my experience.

Andy
