Default what do I need for about 300 bhp

Hey everyone.

New to Subaru's and turbo cars. Only had the scooby 2 weeks now. Its a 2001 wrx and only performance mods are turbo timer and NUR spec R cat back exhaust system.

I am wanting to get to about 300 bhp so what do you all suggest I get to reach that figure.

Decat?
Andy forrest remap?
Panel filter?
BOV ?
Fuel pump?
fuel regulator ?

Any suggestions welcome plus rough idea of the prices also please

Cheers
Chris

you sound much like me as im aimimg for 330ish

green panel filter
3" decat (at least turbo back)plus uppipe for that little extra if needed.
Port Headers
255 walbro fuel pump
STI top mount intercooler.
and Map obviously

and you should be there easy.
Anymore and you'll need to change your TD04 turbo to something bigger. like TD05H etc etc

keep me posted and let me know whats you decide to do and i'll exchange mod results with ya

What about a Front Mounted Intercooler? That normally helps, but think the car needs to be decatted to get the full benefit of a FMIC.

running 300bhp and standard turbo a Front mount intercooler will cause turbo lag like mad. A guy that runs this site has a spec c with standard STI 8 top mount running 380 bhp. still using the original air intake system with a green filter.

Mate, you're not going to get 330 out of a TD04, 280 maximum! If you want to go reliably above that you WILL need a bigger turbo.

So the max you can without a new turbo is 280?

What do I need to achieve that

panel filter ?
decat ?
remap ?

Cheers

Certainly full decat and remap as suggested should see anything from 265bhp-285bhp but as NS04 stated you'd struggle to get anymore out of the td04..

One suggestion would be to exchange your existing td04 for Andy Forest's hybrid version of the td04 - costs £400 plus your old turbo + remap of course

Yep, I'm at 286bhp with a Td04. I reckon they max out at around 290. The Andy Forrest hybrid can go up to 320 I think whilst retaining the quick spool up.

Yep, most don't even reach 280; between 260-280 is more common. To get comfortably over 300 have a look at what I did to my car for ideas.

Have a word with David at Api mate.

I however i AM changing mine to a td05h which will get me where i want at 330

Soz for the confusion i din't wanna step on anyones toes just thought id help

327 from a VF34 with supporting mods is perfectly ok. I'm assuming the torque figure is in Nm not Lbs ft though!

I am running standard turbo (v plate turbo 2000) with :-

HKS full system - no cats
HKS decat pipe
sti filter element
Prodrive ecu (car is fitted with PPP)
samco turbo and intercooler hoses
bleed valve

Running between 285 - 290 bhp and about 298Lb/ft of torque depending on weather conditions on Prosports rollers.

I agree with others, I recon it is the max to be honest out of that turbo. I have been running the car like this for 2 years, and has never missed a beat.

Thank you for the advice guys.

Alot of suggestions to have a look at.

Will I be able to achieve around the 280bhp mark with the standard turbo for about 1500 ? Then get the hybrid turbo from andy forrest for about 400 exchange.

Cheers

Decat and remap will be around the £1500-£1600 mark to around 285bhp. Andy Forrest posted a while ago that his TD04H will produce 25-40 bhp more than the std TD04 but with no loss of spool up and increased midrange torque. You can also run on the std injectors on a WRX as long as you uprate the fuel pump which is around £150 fitted. Also recommend an upgraded turbo to intercooler samco 'Y' pipe.

Ok thanks for the info.

Though why 1500 for just a decat and remap?

I thought a decat was about 400 and a Andy Forrest remap about 600 ?

Cheers

All depends on the pipework you go for I suppose. Worth having an uppipe as well as downpipe for a few extra horses. PPP doesn't replace the uppipe for example. You could probably get all the bits together yourself via e-bay or similar and if you are able to fit your self that will obviously save labour costs. For license and first map around £600-£650. So, yes it is possible to pay less than £1000 for total decat.
