‘power-manifold’ or ‘ported headers’? Best place for 'porting'?

Question

This weekend I drove a Scooby with the power manifold (from Power Eng; it’s a Japanese one: “Maxi…”or something); there was more than just a complete different sound…

Before the manifold, this Scooby and my own (both: UKmy99, open 3”exhaust, VF23-turbo, Unichip with ‘sharp’ mapping; about the same motor-tuning as Theo-EvilBevel’s), where equal quick, now the ‘manifold-scoob’ is faster, specially in high-rev’s (although it looses some power below 4000 rpm).
We use the time from ‘real’100 – ‘real’200 km/u as reference (we do this on german Autobahn with verificated speedo’s; our scooby’s are faster in this speed-range than f.e. a standard 911, or new M3, and about the same as a RS4); the scoob with the manifold won about 1 second in this speed-range and that’s much! (quickest time till now – about the same weather conditions, weight, etc – between 11.5 & 12.0 secs, manifold-scoob around 10.5 sec).
Of course, I like this, and also want… !

The question:
Somebody an idea if you can get the same power-profits with porting the OEM headers?
Or: ported headers as good as a (good) manifold?

I did some Scoobynet-searching on this subject:

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/Forum9/HTML/002579.html
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=56822

I understand that there are different kinds of power manifolds (different lenght’s, different qualities) with different result’s; some do more in low or middle range revs, other (the one from PE) in high revs.
Somebody knows a bit more, f.e which manifold in what rev-range, what’s the best ‘alrounder’, etc??

But I like first to do the porting, and compare the ported-car with the manifold-car…
I don’t know a company in Holland with experience in this material, so:

last question: what is a good (or the best ) place in the UK to do this porting job? What is exactly ported? And what price?
Steve McCulloch wrote: “… It cost me about £150 to get the headers ported. That includes getting them off and putting back on…” (what a difference in price with a new power-manifold, around 1100-1200 pnd excl fitting costs…).
