Here are two pictures of the two model of equal length headers that iON Performance Inc in Canada has designed and is currently testing.

They both look well made, but neither of them look equal length to me. Not that that's a bad thing, IMO.

not so keen on the tapering angle of the 4 into 1 section on the turbo headers, but then I do like the fact that they look seriously unequal.

I know being in canada it probably isnt worth you getting a banner on here, so at the risk of another picking you up for posting it, how much are they?

Morray - yes you're correct. This post was ment as an info post.

Adam - they run $1199US+shipping ~ 840GBP's (that's normal retail). However, for Scoobynet, i-Club, Club STi etc, it'll run $950USD + shipping ~667GBP. But as an intro offer they'll run $899USD + shipping ~630GBP.

The 4 into 1 manifold is the spitting image of the HKS tubular manifold that I fitted to my car, must be a popular design

OK guys here's more info :

The 4-2-1 unit will have more low-end vs. the 4-1 units. The 4-1 style units were designed in mind more for a Drag situation, and hence will provide more peak power vs. the 4-2-1 style unit. Also, the 4-1 style unit allows you to use any cat-less up-pipe or even cat'd up-pipe you have on your car currently. The 4-1 style is just more flexible in those terms. However, the 4-2-1 style is more of a true equal length, as it has less than 1% deviation in runner length etc. The 4-1 style unit deviates about 2-3% from true ideal equal length.

I hope that helps answers questions. The intro offer is only good for 2-3weeks.

From the picture, it's obvious that the 4-1 has two pipes about 30cm longer than the other two. That's not 2-3%, it's about 50% !
I'm not saying it doesn't perform, but there's no way it's equal length.

Question

Does the 4-1 manifold come with an up pipe ? What do they do for the sound?

It is a shame you aren't doing this offer later on next year , just don't have the money at the moment

StephenDone - you're correct in terms of physical length, but you have to remember gasses behave differently. The runners on the drivers side (on a LHD car), are actually smaller in inner diameter than the passanger side. Thus keeping EGV's high, the runners on the passanger side (on a LHD car) are larger, hence equalizing the effective "length" of the gas' travel before the collector.

Big Bear - the 4-1 header's advantage is that you can use your existing up-pipe. Otherwise, if you want a 1 piece unit, I'd get the 4-2-1.

Fair enough, but you didn't mention that before ;-)

Let's see some comparative dyno plots then !

StephenDone - I'll definately post them when I get them. Please keep in mind cars in North America are de-tuned... as well, we have "****" as petrol (91 Octane).

Oh dear <grin>, that's a shame. I knew there was a reason why I lived here (UK) !

Oh well, comparative dyno plots will still show the difference that the headers make, fuel type remaining constant.

Cheers

Steve
