Clutch going or something else ?
Hi,
I have an MY96 (97 engine spec) which has done just over 60K.
Odd thing strarted happening a couple of days ago...
All starts off ok, but get to about 3K and then it feels like the clutch is slipping as the engine revs without appropiate acceleration. appears to do the same thing at around 5k revs as well.
Pullying away is fine. Is the clutch on the way out ?
I believe I have the original clutch at 60K.
Odd thing is that pulling away feels fine.
Thanks in advance
Simon

Sounds like it mate, 60,000 miles is about the normal lifespan
With normal pulling away the clutch is not under half the strain of hard accelerating past 3000 rpm.
You may also get some judder when pulling away (especially in this cold weather). However, this is not always the sign of a clutch going on a scoob
Cheers mate!

Agree with Charles.
pulling away gently = no boost
Reach 3000+ rpm and major boost starts = max torque = clutch will reach it's threshold level = slip.
You will damage your flywheel soon.

Thanks chaps, I kinda assumes it was the clutch.
I also assume as long as I stay below 3K (and so low torque) I'll be OK pootling around town for a few days before I can get it sorted out?

I've read it elsewhere that people always recommend that the flywheel should be skimmed whilst having a new clutch fitted anyway.
But not that this can be done if the flywheel is truly shot!
Good luck and yet another example of you having to open your wallet
