Unhappy

car is a UK MY98 turbo, and ive only had it 6 months

i have been paranoid for a while now about my car sounding rough, like a diesel, when cold. After doing a search on the BBS ive narrowed it down to Piston Slap, apparantly prone on MY98's, anyway its not paranoia anymore im now actually slightly worried. Is it advisable to get it seen to and if so whats the best way of going about it and how much is it gonna cost me (car is no longer under warranty).

like i say ive read other threads regarding piston slap but didnt find out what i wanted to know.

if anyone else has experienced this your help is much appreciated

chris

Edittid cos i kant spel!!

I had it on mine, but had it sorted under warranty - I have no idea how much it would cost though. Opinions seem to vary over
any long term implications. Took mine to Walldonway in Maidstone who were very helpful and I will certainly use again.

My car is going in next week for its service and is going to be checked for the dreaded piston slap,'98 model, hopefully under the extended warranty. It also sounds like a deisel until warm. Stayed OK in summer but now the colder days are with us the thing rattles at every start up if left a few hours.

My UK97MY also had the dreaded slap. Mentioned the noise to the service dept when it had the 60k service and they have just phoned me to say it's covered under the Proven Warrenty.

Chris

Approach your dealer and request a goodwill claim. Piston slap on the 98 is well known and you may get part/full payment.
