Default Gearbox ratios

I need to fit another gearbox because mine is throwing out oil, I would like to go for slightly shorter raios than I have at the moment though. I have a 95 uk turbo with a TY752VN3BA. I know there are a few sites which give codes and ratios, I have one already but it doesnt list my box.

buy an RA gearbox and rear diff and that will give you the shorter ratio's you want but it will also limit your top end due to only having a 7k rev limit

Stevebt is dead right. A UK car with an RA would be tiresome to drive daily.
A box with slightly taller ratios is the Sti box (not the Sti RA), but if the only prob is oil leak why not get it repaired by API (for example)?

Cheers for the replys guys, I was just going to try and get another box with slightly better ratios than I have at the moment. Im not looking for anything extreme just a bit more pokey in gear. 3rd, 4th and 5th in my present box are to long, on motorways the pickup in 5th at 80 is dismal because its not pulling enough revs to be in the power band.

Im new to Scoobys so Im not clued up on all the variations in box's so I need a little help in finding what I need. Ive heard there is a 4 and 8 bolt type, I have the 4 bolt. I wouldnt want to pick a box and source it only to find it doesnt fit. As for fixing my present box, Id rather fit another and then fix my one myself at my leasure and have a spare. Its not just a simple case of fitting another seal, there is a slight noise coming from the input shaft if you hold the revs at 2000 and then put in the clutch. You can hear the shaft spinning down to a stop so it needs a set of bearings.

Looking at that list you posted Group N, This box TY752VB3FA from a JDM Impreza WRX & WRX STi MY95 has ratios that I think are more suitable for me, would it fit my car though?

Just a quick word of advice...

When selecting a replacement box, stay away from the Version 3 STi (ie. 97 and 98) boxes. I have one in my RS Turbo Liberty (ie. Legacy) and finding parts (in Australia) is an absolute nightmare. At least with a box that shares its gear ratios with a lot of other years you have a better chanceof finding parts cheaply and easily.

Ok Ill stay away from that one, looking at the tranny chart there are box's with the same ratios as I want every year right through to 99-00. Will an 00 box fit my car?

Thats the chart I use for JDM comparisons, but I'm not sure it is correct for the gearbox in question, I thought all UK classic imprezas (bar the P1) had a 1.1 drop gear??

Even if it did have a 1.1 drop gears, as long as you source a box with a 4.111 front diff (either TY752 or TY754) I think you can swap your transfer box over.

I stand to be corrected though
