hi

as per topic title

what would i need to do to get this legacy engine in my car
will it go straight in or will i need to mess about a bit or a lot
i dont mind swapping inlets
but what about coil packs n stuff ??
the legacy has 4 sep coil packs like old cars
mine has the one on top of engine with leads going down to the plugs, could i get away with just sticking the leads from my 1 big coil pack into holes and onto plug ends ??
could i just put my inlet manifold on the legacy engine and ill b away
or will there be wiring up to do ect ect ?
and what about fuel rails will they come away with the inlet ?

no.. in a word, not without lots of work which would be two steps backward on a 99 car.

the heads are different so the inlet manifold won't fit from the Impreza.. the legacy inlet won't work with the ecu as the idle valve is a stepper motor on the impreza and a valve on the legacy, also idle valve different, coil arrangement different.. etc...

However the short engine ie. remove your heads and the legacy heads and bolt your heads to the legacy engine will work.. the bolts to the gearbox are different the legacy block has 4 and the 99 impreza gearbox has 8 iirc.. but the 4 line up with 4 on the gearbox..
you may have to mess with the start motor.. the stud / bolt fitment is different between the two but should be solvable.

However. .the question is.. why? plenty of 99 engines in breakers..
