Gearbox Info for 99 Legacy GT-B

Gearbox Info for 99 Legacy GT-B
Hey Guys,
New member to this forum, although I have been browsing for a while.
I am also a member of UK Legacy Forum but have not had much response to questions relating to my gearbox.
Basically, it started popping out of 5th and crunching into reverse and then got temporarily stuck in reverse and 3rd a couple of times.
I've had my local mechanic take it out and open it up. He is hoping to have a go at replacing some parts but is not too familiar with these cars which are still relatively rare in Ireland.
The damage he has identified so far is that the lock-nut was loose which seems to be a common problem in 99/00 Subarus.
One of the gears is cracked and there is some uneven wear on other parts.
My questions are, does anyone know the torque settings for the two shafts?
Seeing as they seem to have similar problems are the gearboxes the same on this generation of Legacy and Impreza.
Does anyone have experience of a rebuild and could they provide me with any info. or suggestions where to source parts needed.
