Default Crunching box

Just been to have a look at a 1995 uk wagon,

the box is stiff going into 1 and 2, crunches into second.

guess the crunching into 2nd is the syncro

any ideas why it could be stiff?

What's one worth in todays market? 2 -2.5k?

Anyone help me out?

Cheers!

Sounds like a bearing is on the way out in the gearbox allowing play in the box. If the two shafts dont line up then engagement may become difficult. This could also be the cause of the crunch not the syncro. I had something similar with my first box which got harder and harder to engage until finally getting stuck in 5th and not coming back out. when I took the back case off one of the shafts had embedded itself into the back plate by about 10mm!
