Gearbox crunching into reverse

Gearbox crunching into reverse
Just picked up my Sti Ra and it's awesome.
The only problem is it badly crunches when engaging reverse, every time. Makes you look like a right tool who can't drive when parking
The car has only just had a prodrive S2 gearkit fitted so thought this would have been addressed at the same time
Do I just have to live with it or is there a cure? Am I right in thinking this is a well known fault and there's no syncro in reverse?
I've taken to puting the car into reverse and keeping my foot on the clutch before starting it
No doubt it's a gearbox out job so I'll just have to live with it.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris
I suffer the very same with my 93 RA, what I do to avoid the crunch is to hold my foot on the clutch for a few seconds before sellecting reverse, this allows the gear clusters to slow.
My clutch is a new AP organic with lightened & balanced flywheel..

hi when you have stopped put it into first then into reverse this should stop the crunching if it does not try getting your clutch bled and adjusted
if all this is still no good it may be a worn clutch or synchro (and yes the reverse on a scooby box does have a synchro)

My MY94 WRX RA is exactly the same crunches reversing off the drive every morning. As said above putting it into first before reverse does seem to work sometimes. My mates Evo is exactly the same seems to be a common problem with older jap cars.

Thanks for the replies guys
Will try selecting 1st gear. Will also try keeping foot on clutch for a while although last time I did try this and pumped it a few times....ooooh matron
The clutch is an AP 3 paddle - I think, althogh the biting point is quite high, doesn't seem to be slipping in any gears. You can nail it in 5th at about 30 and there's no slippage.
