can anyone tell me if it is possible to fit a wrx turbo to a uk impreza , would it make a difference to the power or would it just add more lag, would you get more power by fitting a sti intercooler.

thanks neil

If you mean an older jap Scooby by wrx, then yes, and it's a very good idea.

The VF24/28 (Sti4 and 5/6?) is a very good mix of more power vs lag, the 23 (22b?) and 22 (don't think this is a factory fit one) will provide more power, but will also be more laggy.

You *will* need to remap the car.

I'd go for the remap first, and see if that's enough...then go for the turbo (which in fact is exactly what I did).

The vf22 was standard fit on version 5 and maybe 6 plain wrxs. I believe scott davies had one in his old car.

I am sure pat mentioned massive advantages in converting the inlet pipe to straight entry on a td05 and fitting that in place of the standard uk td04.

Steve lawson once told me of some complications with the water or oil feed or something whebn sitching between IHI and MHI turbos but I cannot remember. I did remeber that it is easy to over come though.

I would still be looking for a fancy hybrid rather than a standard fit turbo which have older designs of compressor wheel.

As always, have a word with BobRawleDevelopments

Adam>>My VF24 dropped in without any problems at all, no issues whatsoever with oil/water lines.

I do think the larger 23/22 could cause some problems with the stock plastic turbo Y-hose...it was a bit tight with my 24.

Cool

I have replaced my turbo with a VF 22(MY00+MO48Pro).
The difference is significant. The power after 4000 rpm is increased about 20% and it pulls until 7200rpm with no hesitation. However, there is a lag between 3000 to 4000 rpm. At this moment, we work to decrease this with different programming and we are pretty close to succeed it.
My opinion is go for it but remap carefully your ECU.

Panos

Thanks jerry,

as I said I was uncertain about this. Have been told there is something to address, but it is probably turbo dependent. Just playing devils advocate here.

Panos, obviously some remapping will improve things, but there is no way you would get a vf22 to spin up as quickly as a TD04, it is simply much bigger. There is always going to be some give and take.
