Default Fidanza Alloy Flywheel - 6Speed

Hi Peeps,

I am considering a lightened flywheel on my sti7 and the alloy one from Fidanza seems to be a good bit lighter (5.5Kg vs normal 8.5Kg).

Was wondering if anyone has had one of these/has an opinion about them.

Cheers

Dan

I think David from APi recommends you dont go below 7kg on a new age STi, have a word with him

I have an API lightened one on my classic and for me personaly I would idealy have liked a lighter one. Hence the quest for a realy light one for the sti7.

Anyone got any feedback on any of the lightend flywheels for the 6 speed?

I've got a billet one off of Lateral Performance at 6.4Kgs no problems with issues regarding it's weight

We also sell the fidanza ones at work and have had no complaints that I know of.

I've also used an Exedy one that looked rather tasty (a friends engine I built)
that was a similar weight to my billet one, again no problems with that so far.

6 and 5 speed flywheels are the same size, it's on thye drillings on the face for the clutch cover that are different.

Cool, thanks guys.

The exedy one does look very nice, seems a shame no one would ever get to see it.

Cheers

Subaru original 6 speed flywheels are nothing like a 5 speed flywheel, they are a completely different shape.

Just to be sure no one looks at this and thinks badly of the APi one, dont! For everyday road use for most people it would probably be as light as you want to go (good price too).

Personally I think that the Fidanza flywheel is too light on the classics at 4.2KG

At 5.5KG I think it would be better but I wouldnt go lighter than 6.5Kg given the choice.

Possibly it is not as simple as this flywheel weighs "X" vs that one that weighs "Y" I assume the distribution of the of the weight across the flywheel can make a difference as well.

For an extreme example if you had a flywheel that has 5Kg of weight at the center and one that has 5Kg of weight on the outside radius then it is going to take different amounts of energy to accelerate/decelerate them.

However I would assume the weight distribution difference between the various designs is probably not different enough to make any real world driving difference though.

Any one got thoughts on this?

I have a 4.2Kg Fidanza item on my classic (with 5 speed) and have had no problems. Idle wasn't affected and neither was my ability to make a clean getaway. The car does pickup speed much better though!
