Default gearbox casing???

Hi,

I'll be coming up to the point where i can afford to send my box down to Paul for a rebuild with a ppg set. Before i send my ver.6 v.ltd box down, i thought it might be worthwhile keeping it and getting a s/h one from fleabay to rebuild. Is there any casing/box i should be looking out for?

Its been commented that the Ty752 version boxes have a weaker case than the Ty754 cases, however Paul @ Zen is using a Ty752 case with 600bhp, so you make your mind up.

I've not read of a case breaking, but others have said that they can flex and lead to gear separation leading to failure. Does having a chunkier gear set (ppg) eliminate the worry of gear separation and therefore give a very strong box?

Andy

Well i wont be running anywhere near close to 600bhp so i reckon both cases must be alright then. Think i'll go ask Paul and find out if different std internals make a difference to the rebuild/cost...Do you know if i would need a specific year of box/type (i.e. uk/ra/sti) to fit my ver.6 STi with dccd? Reason being, i was thinking about buying a cheap 2nd box off fleabay to have rebuilt by Paul instead of having the inconvenience of having a car without a box for a while...would also mean i can keep the original as a spare...

The job can be done in 2 days if you have a fully working box and nothing else needs doing, hardly worth buying a used box without knowing its history- could end paying more to replace worn items!

Well it was 50/50 whether to get one or not. Think it might prove sensible to just rebuild the one i've got..thanks Andy.
