Modena front diff.
Just asking to find out why it seems like such a popular choice for people with well tuned/developed cars? I've got a MY00 sti type r and i'm getting it ready for hillclimbs/sprints. Are there any down falls with the std plated diffs? Should i think about changing, and if so, just the front or rear aswell?

The front diff in your car is open, ie it has no LSD. I guess that's why the Modena diff is a popular up grade. Particularly if the car is used for motorsport. STi type Ra V Limited models came with a front LSD as standard (the only classics that had one).

lol, i'd love to but work commitments dictate otherwise! I've got a month off the second week in may then another from july to august sometime. Would be nice to meet everyone in the flesh!
I dont see the car being ready till next year due to time and money. There'll be an ej22t block winging its way down to Paul soon for a 2.35 build and then its a case of removing the 2.5 and building the new one, along with changing the suspension, brakes blah blah blah.
Oh, and time to save up for a new box.!
All work will be undertaken by myself and a little help from the old man. All except the bottom end, box and mapping. Quite keen to learn how to do it all myself, but not too keen on the bleeding knuckles.....
Thankfully people like yourself Graham are running threads on this already so a lot of advice and tips are being taken on board, like fitting a fmic!
