Default BHP ??

Having decided to join SMACS for the RR day (my idea ) I mentioned to a colleague that I'm hoping for 220-230 BHP with my less than exciting mods!

Thats a pannel filter and decat centre pipe.

I figure 215 standard, maybe 5-10bhp for the two mods.

NOW he tells me that the 215 standard will be at the fly? I never thought of that ? Is that true or do standard 99 Turbo 2000's have 215 at the wheel?

All BHP figures are taken at the fly so dont be disheartened. Cant remember what the lose ratio is ......Mine is around 260 at the wheels and 329 at the fly from memory.

RR figures are for pub talk; it's how the car performs on the road/strip/track that matters.

Just enjoy the car.

Yep, rolling roads are rubbish m8. Too many variables.
I get just over 300hp at the fly though

You know those huge container ships that transport stuff all over the world ? they have 93,000 BHP engines - but I bet your Impreza could still do it on 0-60 and top speed ( and dont even mention the twisties !!! ).

Pretty much all claimed bhp figures are at the flywheel because its a bigger number than the figure at the wheels, and sounds more impressive.

TBH apart from in a 'my dicks bigger than your dick' competition in the pub, does it matter ? Does the car feel fast enough to you ? do you regularly drive at the cars top speed, or use 100% of the cars performance ?

Give the guy a break, he just didn't understand where BHP figures are measured from.

As has been said your figure will be at the fly, and it's generally thought that transmission loss is approx 25% for the scoob. Therefore your 220 hp is circa 175 WHP
