Default Clutch Woes

MY97, standard, 65k (42K in 6yrs), occasionally driven very fast, no traffic light grand prixes though, but daily stop/start traffic. Never thrashed from cold.

Went out for a drive on the w/e. Weather very cold, 20 mile blast, then car left idling for approx 10 - 15 mins. After proceeding for a couple of miles I thought that the seat position had changed as it seemed a long stretch to the clutch pedal. I then realised that the pedal wasn't coming up fully. Changing gear was more notchy than usual (particularly downchanges) and when the pedal was depressed it seemed like it was moving through treacle. Another 20 minute stop, idling, fluid level checked, then drove home. Took it fairly easy and the problem seemed to have gone.

Never any hint previously that the clutch was suffering. Is it likely to be a one-off or a warning of problems to come?
