POWER STEERING
Anybody tell me what the likely problem with my steering is.
When i stop and turn my steering wheel i get vibration through the steering wheel and a loud whining noise, normally happens when car has been driven for a while. also when driving if you dont have the radio on when turn you can hear it whining and sum times a grinding sound also.
Any help would be very appriciated

it seems ok the dipstick level which is attached to the lid is showing it as in between the cold and hot level. Could it be that when it has been driven then fluid goes below the reccomended amount when hot. I will check again tomorrow in daylight. I got6 a leak on my driveshaft oil seals which are being repaired this week, could this be contributing?

you probably have a power steering fluid leak. The pumps wine when they are low on fluid, in fact i can get mine to wine if i thrash the car even when it is topped up so i fill mine over the full mark. Seems to work. Lumpy steering might suggest the pump is on its last legs.

your power steering fluid level may look okay, but it is probably low. I had the same problem and the whining, thought my gearbox was on its way out at first, sounded very much like a rally car. I just got a bottle of fluid and basically just kept pouring it in, it took ages for the fluid level to change. Thats what I would advise you to do.
