Parts required for STI 8 intercooler fitment to classic
I am looking to acquire a STI 7/8 TMIC as part of my ongoing power mods. I have read and re-read the project threads regarding this item (911, Floyd) and am confused as to exactly what parts I need. Could someone in the know please list them for me (inc hoses, brackets, clutch cyl, dump valve etc). Which hoses should I be looking to replace with Samco? I'm not going to be doing the work myself I just want to get a list together so I can begin gathering parts.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. So the intercooler bolts onto a bracket attached to the turbo mounting on the left hand side? Does this imply that the right hand end of the i/c is in the same place, ie using the same mounting brackets?
Thanks for the pics, particularly the one showing the clutch cylinder - you can see why it needs to be shortened, hadn't picked that up on previous pics I've seen.

I have had one fitted to mine for some months now (MY99). I think PJ covered the lot covered. It is a bit of a pain to get in though.
I cut some of my old samco i/c pipe to mate onto the STi pipework. I had to cut away at the inside of the d/v pipe to get it to fit as the dia on the dv end needs to be larger than.
I removed the OE undertray and fitted some sticky foam around the outside of the i/c. Seems to work well although it does come unstuck after a while.
Mine bangs around alot probably as I dont have any brackets fitted.
PJ: What bracket did you use on the other side? What mods were needed to secure into place? Does it bang around at all? Does the blue stuff in the windcreen washer bottle add bhp?

If you want it Ken
The other bracket has just been bent about to fit. but both sides are fitted to brackets. It was only banging around when I put the new strut brace on. but I have now padded it so all is quiet again.
The blue stuff must add about 50bhp some of it is also in the IC Spray

Thanks for the advice guys. Nobody has mentioned a DV yet though, I have seen them sold with the OEM DV (STI 8) - from an upgrade POV is this a good idea or should I be looking elsewhere for a DV, and if so, which one?

There are only really 2 options I consider here.
1 - lowering the coil pack to allow fitment of OE D/V
2 - Using OE N/S bracket to secure the TMIC
Now I've got some Alloy bar, I've made up some replacements bracket to support the TMIC so you don't have to destroy your OE one from your MY99
Mark - Strut brace look good! Just need tp paint the bent bracket to clean it up a little

I have heard mention of the "i/c tray" on the project threads. Looked under my MY99 i/c and can see nothing - are we talking about the plastic tray that sits inside the scoop?
This is the next decision I have to make - if I go for an STI 7 scoop, what to do about the restrictive tray that only has a tiny opening for the i/c...?

See my project thread for undertray details. Use the STi8 DV and for easy fitment buy a new STi8 DV return hose. Shave a little off the coil pack to fit the DV.

carl if you are still doing this conversion may I interest you in a sti7 intercooler scoop under-tray. I has the twin fin design to maximise airflow into the intercooler. comes with the rubber surround and has been trimmed by scooby clinic to fit the classic bonnet

Floyd - I like the undertray. You mentioned that you made a cardboard template - was it accurate and do you still have it? How did you cut the aluminium, just using a hacksaw?

it is possible to modify the oem undertray by widening the aperture to fit the IC I had mine done but u need someone able to weld. driving on motorway without tray fitted (whilst being modded) the IC temperature shot up when going above 50 mph so it is important to use one even if its only the original one.
