(Non sti) RA ltd drivetrain
Trying to figure out specifically what the score is with these critters.
OK what I know (or think I know) so far.
Close ratio gear set including fith (roughly 20mph per 1000 rpm in fith)
36:64 torque split
Rear: suretrack LSD
Centre: Vicous
Front: open
If anyone can confirm or correct this i'd be very grateful. I'm trying to learn how the transmision on this particular variant works.
Thanks in advance
J

Any impreza other than one fitted with dccd has a torque spilt of 36:64. I am certain of this. The 5th gear is an option to any type ra or r, all you have to do is get the 5th gear from an equivalent uk car and drop it in. Not certain in regards to diffs but will research this and see if i can get a definitie answer.

Just to confirm that the standard WRX and UK models had a 50:50 split?

Thats not correct.
The STi TypeRA with DCCD has a torque split of 66.6R/33.3F with the diff fully open, which is then variable upto 50/50 with the same front/rear CWP gearing and 1:1 drop gear.
The WRX TypeRA has a 50/50 torque split with the same front/rear CWP gearing and 1:1 drop gear.
The UK turbo has a 65F/45R torque split with a front CWP gearing of 3.9:1, a rear CWP gearing of 3.545:1 and 1.1:1 drop gear.
Diffs wise, with DCCD you have a plated rear diff (R180 on the later cars, R160 on earlier), the TypeR has an open front diff, the typeRA has a gear based front LSD similar to a quaife or a plated front LSD.
Early and late RA's have diferent gear ratios and final drive ratios.
late RA
4.444 final drive ratio
3.083 1st
2.062 2nd
1.545 3rd
1.151 4th
0.825 5th
Early RA
4.111 final drive
3.454 1st
2.333 2nd
1.75 3rd
1.354 4th
0.972 5th

Well that's thrown the cat amongst the pigeons. If you don't mind John I'll focus on the RA.
So does my RA feel more rear bias because I have been used to driving a UK car with 65F/35R - so with a 50/50 split comparatively more drive to the rear and therefor, subjectively, feels more like a rear driver? Or, torque aside, is it the diff sep up that gives it the hunkered down grabby rear feel?
So........
V5 / V6 WRX Type RA ltd
4.444 Final Drive
3.083 1st
2.062 2nd
1.545 3rd
1.151 4th
0.825 5th
50:50 Torque split
Front: LSD (Gear based or plated, how do we know which?)
Centre: Viscous
Rear: ??????????????
John I'm really grateful that you've answered...cheers.

There could be a typo here? Johns split adds up to 110%.
John, do you mean 55/45 for the UK?

UK is VC centre diff and VC rear diff with an open front diff.
WRX TypeRA is VC centre diff, plated or VC LSD rear diff and plated, mechanical LSD or even open front diff too. The P1 aparantly has a suretrack rear LSD.
Best way to see what you have is to take the back of the rear diff off and have a look at the diferential, or take the driveshafts out and look through the side to see what the centre of the diff looks like. Unfortunately there are just too many versions of the transmition configurations available accross the RA range to give a single correct answer, you had options at the time of order to change the diffs plus you could buy diferent diffs afterwards.

Seriously, thanks for your help John from me and the other RA lads.

What is concrete is the final drive ratios and drop gear ratios for the various models, plus the setup used on the DCCD equipped cars, which always have plated rear LSD's (in either R160 or R180 format depending on year) (with optional mechanical or plated front LSD's )
I'll settle for a litre of Bitburger.

John, are you sure about the UK gearbox torque split? I understood that something changed to a more forward biase with the introduction of the phase 2 engine, but before that they ran straight 50/50 splits?
