Default MY03 selecting reverse

It might sound a silly question to ask but is it right that I can select reverse in my MY03 WRX just by moving the lever over to the bottom right position without having to push down or lift up the gear lever at all . I don't remember my classic being like this but then again it had a quick shift fitted , but I have on a few occasions caught reverse while changing down from 5th to 4th , does this sound normal or is something a bit wrong here ?

Yes! from neutral. It should not engage from the other gears though.
The classic box was the same. The 6-speed has the lift-up collar to allow the lever to move into the reverse slot.
