Sti V3 Gearbox Rating

You will get a 1000 opinions...
And here is the 1001..
I think if it is in good nick, then you can expect it to tolerate 350 or so lbft.
To qualify this, I have a V3, 26000 miles old.
3 full attack hill climb seasons under it's belt, 2 @ 314 bhp/280 lbft and street tyres (Toyo), and 1.5 seasons on Kumho V70A, but this year with the 407bhp/340 lbft engine.
I add the tyre bit as the grip you have on very hard starts will strain the trans a lot more as the clutch (AP organic) bites at 5000 rpm+.
Hope this helps.
ps: Saving for a 6 speed or Zen helical gear set. (but a V6 box might do too).
Graham.

Cheers Chaps - that's around what I's also heard - I'm 278 lbft as the last count (2 yrs ago) things have changed mod wise and I'd expect to be slightly over - 106K on the clock now and touch wood no probs.
Have some fairly extensive plans in mind this year but a Sti 8/9 GB is NOT budgeted for - so good to know what the limits are....
One other Q - is the Sti V3 box any stronger than a regular WRX box of around the same year?
