NINJA OR VORTEX
Time for a change of backbox, 400 miles a week (260 on M1 hi-speed).
Don't want my ears to bleed, what do you lot reckon Ninja or Afterburner Vortex for MY02 STi? Maybe another recommendation? I have listened to both sound files but would like to hear of drivers views please.

Ninja owner on an MY04...
Plus points...
a) Polishes up very well... which I like!
b) Good value for money
c) The 'can' looks large from a side view
d) Noise is good, and loud enough to turn heads
e) Hardly notice the noise when cruising at 70mph in 5th
Minus points...
a) It hangs a little low. Could probably be 1/2" higher
b) Not as loud as you think next to a Vortex, HKS or Blitz back box
c) The Mrs (and even my daughter) know when I'm pulling up to the house
All in all a good back box. I thought long and hard about a Scoobysport or an H&S, but for the money the Ninja could not be beaten. Even managed to a get an extra discount which bought the price down to just over £200 inc VAT and P&P!

I have the Vortex with straight through piping to the downpipe (removes 1 cat).
Considered the Ninja but the sound of the Vortex won me over. The Ninja is quite subtle in my opinion, whereas the Vortex is pure rawness. It can be a bit in your face but I love it. Does look better than the Ninja I think.
The new age cars are better sound proofed and I don't find it too loud at all at motorway speeds. It changes note over 3,000 rpm and at 70-80 on the motorway it is easy to live with in my opinion. I can still hear the radio fine on volume 15. I also haven’t had any complaints from the neighbours (live in a block of flats).
On maximum attack it’s a different story though. The car can be heard from a considerable distance so I wouldn't recommend the Vortex if you don't want to draw attention.
Also worth noting that the Vortex releases a couple of extra bhp over the Ninja.

In answer to your question....if you don't want your ears to bleed don't have an Afterburner. Have had both a Ninja and Afterburner. Ninja much quieter.

Think it's gonna be the Vortex, thanx all.
Peachy, maybe see you around in Hertford, in the process of buying the shop next to the post office at the mo. Keep an eye out, got my nickname in rear windows on sidc stickers.
