I believe it fits, though unless your going for big power your probably better off using the gearbox you have now, you may also need a new rear diff, plus note that these gearboxes are considerably heavier than the one thats in your car already.

Im not really after big power but the car really feels like it could do with another gear. Especially on motorways

Ah the joys of owning a type RA
Shorter gearing.... though you can change whats in the gearbox, probably cheaper, some of the later STi Type RA V-Ltd's came with a longer 5th.

I have a STI RA Vltd. Same problem so I had the 5th gear changed.
I now get 83 mPH for 3000 revs. Before I was getting 70MPH for 3000 revs.

Give Colin a ring at Thames motorsport.

01635 202701 or 07771767874 cost approx £290 £310

Another point to consider. The JDM 6 speed has very short ratios 1 through to sixth. Sixth gear on a JDM is not gonna be much different to your RA fifth, i.e. short and higher revs on the motorway.

Better to swop your 5th gear IMHO.

The JDM 6 Speed STi box gives around 160mph flat out (7500 rpm) but the UK version has a longer 5th and 6th.
