Any Impreza box, including 6 speed will fit your car, but you may need to consider changing the rear diff to match. I can vouch form experience that the Japanese WRX 5 speed box gives up around 300-310 lb/ft, as mine did while remapping. I have fitted an STi 6 speed box to mine as these are considered very strong (but they are also very heavy).
PS I know of a complete 6 speed STi box, prop and diff kit for sale if you are interested.

If your not wanting to go too fancy, then a 6 speed is the best way to go, they can take a serious amount of abuse and torque. David Wallis has just shy of 500lbft, and his standard 6 speed in a classic has coped very well so far.
If you want fancy, more money, then i would suggest a PPG gear kit, and suggest speaking to Paul at www.zenperformance.co.uk

The only tried and tested way for you to go is for a 6-speeder.
I spoke to Prodrive about so-called stronger boxes fitted to some Scoobs, eg P1s, STi RA etc, and they said they were not aware of any fundamental differences between any 5-speed boxes, although did concede that they had had slightly less gearbox related problems with the P1. I have also not read anything on here that conclusively asserts that some boxes are stronger, and why. If there is, I'd like to know, too
My 2.5 UK Classic with 5-speeder is currently taking 340lbs/ft (Power Station) which is too high for comfort (but it goes well ). So far so good, and I'm trying to be gentle with it. If it breaks, it breaks.
Richard.
