Exhaust baffles
Just trying to work out if exhaust baffles really are a hindrance or whether my mind's just playing tricks on me.
Before I had my standard back box removed yesterday, my Classic UK Turbo felt as though it had a sock or banana blocking its waste pipe if I gently accelerated early on in the rev range. If I nailed the fun pedal I couldn't really feel it too much but I've always thought my wife's UK '01 WRX was slightly quicker and more eager (where she has a WRSport box fitted.)
Now armed with my newly acquired Hayward & Scott rear muffler, I'm sure the problem has gone. Would the design/baffles inside a standard exhaust really cause such a disruption to the escaping gases..? It certainly feels like it, but I'm not 100% sure if the H&S box is straight through.
Whatever, I'm not complaining.

H&S backboxes are straight through, shine a torch up it and you'll be looking right through the backbox. When I added a backbox to my otherwise standard car it certainly sounded better, but I wouldn't say it felt perceptibly better. It's generally reckoned that a back box is worth at most 5bhp, which is not really enough to feel.

Hmmm, an extra 5 or so bhp eh..? Just need to get my blue washer jets, fluffy dice, and the car lowered by 2 ft and I'll be out-running McLaren F1's in no time! ;o)
