Torque about a Standard Clutch 8D
Seems when cold, that in 5th when turbo spools up at about 2750/2800rpm the clutch slips. It's a new-ish clutch (previous owner fitted new before I got it), at what torque levels does the standard clutch start failing?
cheers

there is no definitive answer to this to be honest, i believe that the clutch is rated to 280lbft, and under normal use on a relatively standard car should see in excess of 50k miles easily. but can take much more without problem.....or some will fail with less...for example.
My car has just ticked over 30k, and is running circa 300lbft for the last 10k miles. Done a full track day, and plenty of drag starts and its still fine
so its a case of getting a good one or getting a crap one :P

Thanks for the replies.
The previous owner is a Scoobynetter and a top bloke, had a new clutch fitted at the same time as a new engine (old one let go, big-ends, piston 3, etc). Even saw the old flywheel.
As it's only happening when it spools up in fifth think I'll make do, no prob with the odd quick launch in the dry 8)

Cool, that rules out the clutch being old then..
One other thing to consider... is there any oil present under teh gearbox or around the sump area?

I had similar symptoms to what you describe...Slipping in high gears at high load.
When i removed the box to replace the clutch, it turned out that a very small amount of oil had been leaking out of the back edge of the sump. This had worked it's way into the bellhousing, and over time had contaminated the clutch.
One 8,000 mile old organic clutch in the bin
Other than that, as Rob says - it's more likely to be CS Rear Oil Seal.
